A
unique component of The New Y-CAPP Inc. is the Y-Tech Vocational Program. This enables
us to link our independent living - life skills programs to our vocational
training programs.
The technical - vocational center exposes participants to various trades and
skills. This allows program participants to experience specific trades in a hands
on environment. It also enables them to learn and utilize the practical
applications of each trade.
Through participation in Y-Tech’s program, young people will be given the
chance to experience several career and vocational paths. This experience affords
them the ability to acquire the skills necessary to be successful in their
chosen fields. Our goal is to “open windows of opportunities” and to help
participants gain the necessary tools to open doors for employment.
Residents
of The New Y-CAPP Inc. attend Y-Tech-Vocational Center at NO ADDITIONAL COST!
Career / Trade Curriculum
Training is offered to students from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Monday through Thursday
for three (3) months. The population to be served will be young adults between
14-21 years of age.
After thorough Career / Employability Assessments, students are offered the
opportunity to choose four (4) specific trades to explore – Courses offered
are:
- Automotive Servicing
- IT Fundamentals
- Barbering
- Cosmetology
- Home Health Care
- Women’s Enrichment
- Radio and Music Communications
- Life Skills
Each
trade / career exploration will focus on developing basic manual dexterity,
hand to eye coordination, etc. while giving the students basic tools to succeed
in employment.
